Present

Following wider trends in the province, the shrine began to wind down after the time of Bishop Michael Wiwchar C.Ss.R who was very supportive.

When the foundations of the Church of St Demitrius were found to be compromised in around 2010, the large scale pilgrimages stopped.

In 2018, a committee was formed to look at the site and determine what should be done. This work seemed all the more urgent when a windstorm knocked over the tall hillside cross.

It was clear that the Hill was the Shrine, not the Church or Chapel. Valued as these were, it was decided to demolish them both so that the shrine could be used again.

The first pilgrimage in a number of years was held on the Hill shortly after the Covid 19 restrictions were lifted.

After this, a priest-monk discovered the site and began praying about it and about the establishment of a monastery to bring healing back to the region and beyond.
